While we are not moving (some have wondered) or leaving IHOP-KC (some have also wondered), the coming months do present themselves with a fair amount of new as I take on this one hour, daily radio show on 730 AM / 102.9 FM WTNT in Washington, DC.

  • I will go from having the bulk of my work done in the mornings and early afternoons to focusing intently on the afternoon hours in prep for an early evening radio show.
  • I will focus on learning how much I don’t know about radio (which is a lot).  From the financial model to the technical bits, it’s all new to me.  Talking for an hour about whatever I want to talk about?  That’s easy.  Stopping on time and making it sound natural?  That will take work.
  • After years of centralizing myself online with all email address running to one box and maintaining a presence on a blog, I need to now start to think compartmentalized, with radio contacts and others, and a radio website and everything else.

For all the new, there is a fair amount of stuff that I have at least thought about for years – most prominently the opportunity to compete in the arena of ideas.

I have always loved to talk about the ramifications of events, the trends of culture, and the motives of mens’ hearts.  Sitting around a table at a coffee shop, it’s interesting.  On the air in the nation’s capital, it’s entirely different.  Some people that I disagree with may very well be listening at that very moment.  I sense the bar being raised and I’m looking forward to it…especially as I bring my faith with me into the arena.

I’ve always held to the idea that good ideas hold up under close examination, and God can do the same.  We will explore that further, every night from 7-8pm,  come September 3.

Thanks for the encouraging words and prayers the past few days – and if you are able, consider helping fund this season for us as we make the leapt towards self funded missionaries (see badge at upper right).
